Re-styling a single room around a cherished family heirloom, working to a strict budget or a specific colour palette, designing an entire home or business premises from scratch - these are just some of the challenges that, as an interior designer, I absolutely love.
A prime example is Pynes House in Exeter. I had already worked closely with the client previously in the re-styling of their spacious and elegant principle bedrooms. As this select wedding venue became increasingly popular, my clients could see the potential in converting the derelict attic, which was formerly servants’ quarters, into further accommodation.
The clients were happy to give me a completely free rein to transform the space; by now they were confident that I fully understood their needs and sense of style. The unusual arched windows provided an interesting challenge, overcome with tailor-made blinds which further served to emphasise the windows’ character.
So, interior design isn’t just about pretty fabrics and paint. Whether I am working for a private or commercial client, a successful outcome depends upon a considered and meticulous approach which balances both aesthetic and practical concerns.
